Gill Sweeting MBACP (Accred) Counsellor/Psychotherapist

After graduating, I worked for many years as a business consultant within the financial services industry. Although successful, I was unfulfilled. After several episodes of depression, I turned to a psychotherapist for help in changing my life. She helped me to see how my early experiences had shaped my choices, and showed me that I could think and behave differently. Working with my psychotherapist, I left my struggles with depression behind and started to experience a new, more alive way of being. Inspired by this experience, I decided to train as a psychotherapist and help others on their own unique journeys.

I have a private practice in the Peak District. I have consulting rooms at the Bakewell Therapy Rooms in Bakewell and at my home in Silverlands, Buxton. I have also worked as a volunteer for three charitable organisations. At Blythe House day hospice, I worked as a bereavement counsellor. With the North Derbyshire Alcohol Advice Service, my clients were people with alcohol-related issues and those close to them. At Women's Aid I worked with survivors of abuse.

As a professional psychotherapist, I am required to be in supervision and my supervisor provides excellent support to me in my practice. I have an honours degree in psychology and a diploma in integrative psychotherapeutic practice. I am a BACP Accredited Counsellor/Psychotherapist and a UKRCP Registered Independent Counsellor/Psychotherapist. I work within the ethical guidelines of BACP.

I am a qualified teacher for the lifelong learning sector, and I teach on counselling concepts, skills and diploma courses at the University of Derby in Buxton. I also run team building workshops for local businesses, in association with the management consultancy organisation Project Future.

In addition, I am employed part time by St. Luke's Hospice in Sheffield as a bereavement counsellor.
